National Pet Fire Safety Day takes place every year on July 15, and it’s a day to learn how to keep your pet safe in a fire. For many of us, pets are our most precious asset so it makes sense that we would dedicate a day to keeping them safe during one of the scariest things we can imagine. It was started by the Kennel Club and ADT Security in 2009 to help pet owners learn safety measures to protect their beloved pets and homes from fire, and it’s a great opportunity to learn how to keep your fur baby safe.

July is Lost Pet Prevention Month. This pet awareness month was started by PetHub as a way to draw attention to the need to prevent our pets from getting lost during this month–and year around. This summer, as we all get outdoors more with our pets, please take a moment to check these five easy points.

Summer is here, and in true Kansas fashion, it's going to be a hot one. While we all know that we shouldn't leave pets alone in cars this summer, another thing that pet owners need to be careful about is whether the pavement they are walking on is too hot for their dog's paw. 

National Pet ID Week is always for seven days starting April 17. It gives pet owners an excellent opportunity to review the steps they can take to ensure their pet has the best chance of being recovered should the animal become lost.

Advice from the American Heartworm Society

Pet owners need to understand the importance of year-round protection and the importance of prevention.

“Heartworm is endemic in many parts of the United States, due to conditions that favor the proliferation of mosquitoes that carry the disease and the high reservoirs of animals carrying heartworm larvae,” says AHS president Wallace Graham, DVM. Meanwhile, he adds, the mosquitoes that carry heartworm disease breed in standing water, and late-summer weather events such as hurricanes and heavy storms have left plenty of standing water in their wake.

Here are some important facts from AHS:

• Heartworm is everywhere. According to a nationwide survey of more than 5,000 veterinary hospitals conducted by AHS in 2010, heartworm was confirmed in all 50 states.
• Treatment is not a “fallback.” While heartworm disease in dogs can usually be treated, veterinarians have limited medication supplies, the treatment carries risks (careful monitoring and cage confinement are required for a month or more) and treatment can cost as much as $1,000. Meanwhile, there is no effective medication for treating cats with heartworm disease.

43 percent of calls to Pet Poison Helpline regarding dogs that ate over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription medications.

National Slobber Appreciation Day is celebrated on November 16th and it’s a way for owners of drooly dogs to show off their slobber and embrace the trait that makes them unique and extra huggable to those that love them the most!

In rescue, there a lot of stories to tell – Stories of brave rescue. Stories of selfless volunteers. Stories of unspeakable abuse and neglect. Stories that hurt. Stories that heal. Beauties and Beasts, Inc is known for using social media to tell the majority of these stories, but we wanted something more. We wanted a channel to document the stories of the dogs and cats that we are working so hard to save. We are excited to start this journey of joy, sadness, healing and RESCUE.
