WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — On Sunday, a Wichita house exploded and killed Kendal James. Now family and friends are remembering the impact he had on others.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Over 70 dogs have been rescued from a property in Sumner County by the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Beauties and Beasts Rescue, and other law enforcement agencies.

A news release from Beauties and Beasts says the property was a breeding operation of Samuel Roman, who recently had his license suspended by the Kansas Department of Agriculture.

Beauties and Bests received 34 of those dogs.

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, pet adoptions soared.  Shelters across the nation celebrated rows of empty kennels as people clamored to bring a pet into their life.

But those joyous days are over. Today, shelters and rescue organizations are drowning in surrendered pets and adoptions are down. Things are so bad that many agencies have halted all intakes.

Beauties and Beasts, Kansas Horse Education Advocacy Resource Team, and Kingman Humane Society are also providing assistance at the scene.

Several rescue groups in Wichita took in animals taken from an animal hoarding situation in Bel Aire Monday.

Beauties and Beasts is caring for 10 cats and 10 dogs.

The black cat was out on the ice on the Arkansas River in downtown Wichita on Thursday afternoon, and it wasn’t moving.

A motorist spotted the cat shortly after 4 p.m. and, concerned, called 911. An animal control team arrived on the scene and contacted the Wichita Fire Department, which alerted the water rescue team.

The Beauties and Beasts has rescued hundreds of animals. Now, the rescue group is hoping to expand on that with its first home. Today, Beauties and Beasts is hosting a benefit to let people tour its new facility.
