MJ
Meet MJ — or “Emmy-J,” as we affectionately call him.
MJ is a shepherd mix with a big heart and an even bigger story. He came to Beauties as part of a litter named after 80s rockstars, which is how he got his name, Michael Jackson. While his littermates were quickly adopted, MJ’s journey took a few unexpected turns during his adolescent phase. He was returned to rescue after his adopters found they weren’t prepared for the challenges that can come with a young, developing dog. Today, MJ is the last of his litter still waiting for his forever home.
When he arrived in foster care, MJ was unsure of the world and carried a lot of fear and anxiety. With time, structure, and patience, he’s blossomed into a more confident, engaged companion. He learned his name, basic obedience like sit and down, polite leash walking and heel, and how to calmly greet other dogs. He’s now working on recall and staying connected on off-leash style adventures.
MJ has been gently and steadily exposed to real-world environments—dog-friendly stores, busy roads, livestock, and even a toddler on a bike. Each experience has helped him grow into a dog who is learning to navigate life with confidence and curiosity.
Like many young dogs, MJ still needs guidance. He thrives with daily exercise and mental stimulation; without it, he can get bored and may chew on things he shouldn’t or pester his canine friends. He is also continuing to work through some separation anxiety and lingering insecurity, which improve with consistency and routine.
MJ’s favorite things include playing fetch, tug-of-war, hiking and running, using his nose on scent walks, heavy chew toys, chasing birds, spending time with his people, and curling up for affection after a full day.
He would do best in an active home that values structure, routine, and continued training. MJ is still growing into the dog he’s meant to be, but he’s already shown how much heart, intelligence, and loyalty he has to give. In the right home, he’ll be an incredible companion for adults and respectful children alike.
