This handsome boy has had a tough past and is looking for an experienced, committed adopter who can give him the structure and stability he needs. Because of his history, he should be placed in a home without other pets—he is not cat-friendly and has not been successfully tested with other dogs.

He does have some guarding behaviors and has shown some reactive behaviors when he felt uncomfortable or his boundaries weren’t respected. His actual physical behavior is usually quite chill, and because he has short fur, his cues are very subtle. They are soft signals that can easily be missed by someone who isn’t highly observant, which is why he’ll need a dog-savvy adopter who can read and respect those signs. We believe much of his past behavior was likely tied to a lack of structure and clear communication in his previous home. With patience, consistency, and someone who understands dog body language, he has the potential to thrive.

To keep him healthy, he will also need to remain on a chicken- and grain-free diet to help with his skin and ears.

Cody isn’t the right fit for every home, but for the right person willing to invest the time, understanding, and care, he will be a loyal and rewarding companion.
