Abby is a 4-year-old Lab/Basset mix with a low-rider build and a heart full of love. She was rescued from the euthanasia list at the Chanute shelter back in December and has been living in one of our Alzheimer's care homes ever since. While she’s been a gentle and comforting presence, the busy and unpredictable environment just isn’t the right fit for her long term.

Abby is friendly with people, dogs, and even cats, but she can be a bit nervous around children. She does well in a kennel and finds comfort there, though she may try to escape if left crated for extended periods—so a clip or secure latch is recommended.

She can be cautious when strangers enter the home, occasionally letting out a growl, but with a proper introduction she warms up quickly and becomes her usual affectionate self. Abby absolutely loves to snuggle, enjoys playing fetch, and is always up for a walk, though she isn’t overly energetic and would do especially well with a calm, consistent household. She could be a wonderful companion for a retired person or a quieter home environment.

We’re looking for a foster who can give Abby a chance to decompress and adjust in a normal home setting. She’s incredibly sweet and deserves a place where she can truly relax and thrive.

Could you open your heart and home to Abby, even just temporarily? You’d be giving her the next big step toward a forever family.
