Alora arrived at our rescue with her four kittens, ready to do what every loving mother does—care for her babies. The day before she arrived, eight orphaned kittens had been surrendered, all too young to survive without a nursing mom. We took a chance and introduced them to Alora. She never hesitated. She welcomed all eight as if they had always been hers, nursing, cleaning, and loving every one of them alongside her own kittens. When those kittens were finally weaned, another heartbreaking emergency unfolded. A very young mother cat delivered a litter of premature kittens, became frightened, and abandoned them. We rushed to Alora, hoping for one more miracle. The moment I carried her into the room, she heard the tiniest little cry. She literally leapt from my arms, ran straight to the babies, and immediately began cleaning and caring for them as if they were her own. Despite everyone’s best efforts, three of those fragile kittens were simply too premature to survive. But one tiny fighter did. Little Sharpie is alive today because Alora refused to give up on him. Now, after raising litter after litter that wasn’t even hers, Alora has finally earned her retirement. She has been spayed, and once Sharpie is old enough to be on his own, Alora is ready to discover what it’s like to be someone’s beloved pet instead of everyone’s devoted mom.
